Steven B. Haley, Esq.
Mr. Haley has been engaged in the practice of law since 1976. Mr. Haley is admitted to practice in California, and in the United States District Court for the Northern and Eastern Districts of California. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Santa Clara University School of Law in 1976, after having earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from California State University, San Jose, in 1972.
Mr. Haley joined the firm of Groom & Cave, LLP, in 2005. The focus of his practice at Groom & Cave has been in the area of commercial real estate, primarily in purchase and sale transactions and landlord-tenant transactions. His practice extends to residential real property matters, entity formation and operation, creditor’s rights, commercial law, and general civil matters.
Mr. Haley has also had extensive litigation experience in the secured real property area, including litigation involving foreclosure trustees and borrowers, lenders and borrowers, brokers and investors, bankruptcy nondischargeability and relief from stay litigation, lender-appraiser litigation, and matters related to insurance coverage disputes.
Mr. Haley serves as a temporary judge for the Santa Clara County Superior Court in both the traffic trial court and the small claims court. He serves on the Board of Trustees for the Santa Clara County Bar Association, and as president of the West Valley Bar Association.
Prior to joining Groom & Cave, LLP, Mr. Haley was a member of Adleson, Hess & Kelly from 1991 to 2005. Prior to 1991, Mr. Haley maintained a solo general practice. Mr. Haley has also served as a member of the State Board of the California Trustee's Association (predecessor to the United Trustees Association), and as a director of the Bay Area Chapter of the California Trustee's Association. Mr. Haley served as a member of the Issues Resource Panel for the Appraisal Standards Board of The Appraisal Foundation, Washington, D.C., on issues pertaining to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, from 1997 through 2001.
